just trying to show you my favorite shoes

today was so dreary and drizzly and foggy,
to the point that i fell in love with a boy on my way home from work.
(blame it on the rain, as we say in these parts.)

speaking of love, i have fallen head over heels for my new heels.
(baha! couldn't resist)

they're calvin (from marshalls, as i am a poor little churchmouse) and:
the perfect heel height (approx 2"),
a divine color (pewter? not black not gray not green not purple...all of the above),
richly suede,
and i must be growing up because the stream-lined no-nonsenseness(?) of them: makes me swoon rather than: bores me.

unfortunately I struggle with capturing the cool essence of them:

simple, but so delicious.

in other news, here is my new tiered dress. can't see the tiers. unfortunately it has perpetual static cling: (blame it on the rayon, as we also say in these parts.)

another useless day spent falling in love with strangers.

cursed

I am for the most part, very happy with my sunday routine.

1. go to church at redeemer
2. eat mcdonalds for lunch afterwards with k and b and j.
3. find a reason to run errands at target, also with k, my platonic wife.

But, unfortunately, I have the Curse of Target:
where every single time I enter those red doors,
no matter what is on my "list", I walk away with double the purchases I had in mind.

I could be strict as snape with myself; abide by the list, don't even look at the clothes section, steer clear from the seasonal cup and plate displays, cover my eyes when I pass the jemma kidd makeup line (which i desperately want-- no reason).

... yet I continually stray.

Today, on my list:
kitty food and hair dye.

Ended up with:

kitty food and hair dye COMMA chapstick (i have too many already, i just always loose them. however this could be argued as a necessity purchase, in my defense.) COMMA vintagey-floral throw pillow (an impulse buy if there ever was one) COMMA chiffony tiered vintagey-floral springy sundress COMMA face wash COMMA vintagey-floral vasey thing* COMMA green undies. (the last few things kelly bought for herself, but are included in this compilation of impulses, as she did not enter the establishment with "green undies" on her list.)
that is a lot of commas on a two-item list of needs.
all I have to say for myself is:
it is a very cute dress.
*worth noting that we at my house have been floral-centered as of late. i'm like a hunting dog with it's prey whenever I see vintagey florals. i love playing trendspot, the end.

emergent

Finally, this week, I had an adventure.

Tuesday I woke up, found out I needed to fly to DC that day (where my BFF of olden days happens to live! and I got to see her), proceeded to stay in the fanciest hotel of my life, met with the CEOs of all the medical organizations in the US (slightly exaggerated-of course), and managed to do all of the above like a savvy little lady of business.

Also, I pretty much lived in my purple thrift-store find kitten heels this week.

compliment count (from strangers, mind you): 4

fame

this weekend we went to see He's Just Not That Into You.

(it was okay...I Just Wasn't That Into It)
so i'm sitting there, watching, and then there's this scene where drew barrymore is in a coffee shop and bumps into the love-crossed realtor she's been selling ad space for in her magazine over the phone. they fall in love.

but: the point is not that they fall in love. the point is:

I have the dress that she is wearing in that scene.

thus: I am famous.

unforunately you can hardly see it in the only picture I could find:

And this is not a one-time occurence.

I also have the same zebra-face nightie that amy poehler wears in Baby Mama while she's peeing in the sink.

So, I am going to watch movies veeeerry carefully now,
in hopes that more over-the-top horrible-taste film characters will be wearing things I own.

woo hoo!

Also PS,
it's not too late to get 50%off valentines socks and undies at target.
I just came from there, and now have pink cupcakes all over my feet.

heart in hand

i, annie c, hereby vow to enjoy and celebrate valentines day to the fullest, every year, with doily hearts and bouquets of balloons, regardless of whether or not i have a secret-agent-lover-man.

because, that is not the point.

the point is: a holiday is a holiday.

so we made sure to palm-paint in appreciation.
happy day of love to you and you and you.

picking up trash in dresses

longing for summeryspring,
since i always say "maybe next season"
for all my goals and things i wish would happen to me.
(so i guess, i can't wait for summer, so that I can say "for sure in the fall" ?)

but TRULY i am ready, for the warmth and for the weddings.

today I have been wishing I was back in paris, or back in mexico, or back in chicago.
kansas city charm has not been working on me?
(beige office, i blame and curse you)

also, i am purging my closet.
super-cleansing, considering I hate/have-no-need-for most things I own.

unfortunately, my staple baby-blue fringe cowboy boots from last summer,
(in that picture my sister took with the hopscotch -which we actually played that day),
did not make the cut to stay.

I feel bad but, I don't really.
(drill team chic, it was all in my head)

realty

so.
we are thinking of moving into the house,
which is directly across the street from where we live now.
which you may think is funny,
because why move 10 feet away, when you could just stay?

I will tell you!
Because the new house has the following charms,
which I think all houses-under-consideration must possess,
nomatter the size or fancyness:

1. upstairs bedrooms (homey-ness quotient vastly increased)

2. porch swing (necessity)

3. hardwood floors

4. an attic fan (!!!!)

5. roof access from bedroom windows (ideal for; picnics, reading, dinking around on instruments, general delicious sun exposure, and secret midnight meetings.)

So, those would be the five things...
I know, I know, I should be a realitor.

regardez:

roof access from window.

address, also known as MARCH 31, which is my birthday. fateful.

porch swing. swing with me, will you?

safari

a sequence:

girl enters store.
girl plows immediately to clearance shoes, as is ritual.

in her size (9, if we're being particular)
girl finds a barren wasteland of: last year's keds and plastic boots.

is disgruntled.

wanders to the little dainty sizes (6, 7, lucky little monkeys)
and finds a wonderland of darling,
deeply discounted silver oxfords and flats with big toe-bows.

girl tries (in vain) to squeeze into said flats with big toe-bows.
is reminded of icky cinderella stepsisters.

girl departs the department, emptyhanded and slightly shamed.

maybe this is how everyone feels?
but I say, you little feeted ladies, please be thankin your luckies.
....you get all the best ones.

Now, please don't color me Complainer:
I found an amazing C&C california GIRAFFE tank for $7.

I know what you're thinking:
zebras, leopards, common creatures in the clothing jungle.
but GIRAFFES!
what a find!
(...also you may be thinking, that girl knows not how to make a good giraffe face. turns out, it's not as straight-forward as making a monkey face or a fish face. tricky.)
