beautyglare

so.
I am tired, partly because today my soul kind of got drained by the incessant rain.
[usually i love rain. we are lovers, rain and I. but my shoes got soggy on my way back from lunch, and some things are just unforgiveable in a relationship.]

but THEN.
I stop by payless with my mom after work because we'd heard of a sale.
and then some sparkling gold flats by christian siriano for payless
SAVED. MY. DAY.
lifted my spirits, opened my eyes, soothed my sorrows, etc etc etc.
plus, got them at 50% off.
I am wearing them tomorrow.
and whether it rains or not, thanks to:
christian siriano, oprah, and payless....
it is going to be a good day.

create your own sunshine, people! they say.
but i say....
buy your sunshine and wear it around, pointing out to every friend and stranger that you got your sunshine... on sale.

peace and argyle to the masses and goodnight moon.

mirror mirror

we did all kinds of things today, looking exactly like this.
without realizing until "it was too late."

basically the same shoes.
EXACTLY the same blackcrewnecklongsleevedtee (one can never have enough, come the chill).
different jeans*...but jeans all the same.
the same nail color. (at your quebec-and-call, opi)

[*actually my jeans are not jeans. they are denim leggings. as in, no zipper. you have to wiggle them on and off in an incredibly unappealing way. but, they are comfy and soveryworth it. i recommend.]

however does one avoid looking exactly like their roommate while running errands on the weekend? we all gravitate toward people with similar taste and preferences, cause thats part of what we have in common in the first place. not to mention, friends shop together and find the same great deals in the same great colors. but this! this has got to be excessive!

i was kind of hoping a friendly stranger would ask us if we were twins.
you know, jokishly and jolly-like.
alas, no one seemed to notice.
is it possible to wear the exact same thing, yet still put your own style and twist on it?
to the point that no one notices it is virtually the same outfit?
i hope. cause that would just be cool.

ceremonious

according to my sources; an impressively on-trend little sister, gwenyth paltrow, and several magazines:
the "it" nailcolor this winter is:
GRAY.

I first heard of this from aforementioned impressively on-trend little sister about a month ago.
and I was not impressed.
Gray? the color of slouchy tees and leather accessories? on my fingers?
K (sister) went for it, and it looks pretty cool on her fingertippies.
also on gwenyth p, not to mention.

But here's the thing, I am very picky about nailcolor. A couple years ago, I enacted a policy for myself based on the age-old predicament: too many colors. too few fingers. For every season, I buy one nail color. barring unforeseen circumstances, I devote myself to that color until the seasons change. it is a heavy decision, and quite a process- the search for The Chosen One. but it helps me keep track of myself, enacts consistency, and looking through my bag of nailcolors turns into a photoalbum of memories, kind of.

and if you like the idea of gray nails, by all means, you have my blessing.

BUT I couldn't take the plunge with gray this fall/winter. I had to go for something more up my alley. And wihtout further adoo, ladies and gentlemen, may I present my fall 09 color of choice:

OPI's At Your Quebec-And-Call

**ps. I think I already know what nailcolor I want for spring, premature as it may be...banana.

***pss. or maybe more of a pear color. then they can call it: two tickets to pear-adise. I'd fit right in with the geniuses at opi!! (is what I tell myself)

"my name's aquamarine!"

this is going to be brief.

[note how i did not say "this is going to be a quickie". uncomfortable phrase. also, i shudder when extremely tired people declare themselves "pooped". what!? you are pooped? you. have. been. pooped...? out of what, or who, and why, and how does that have anything to do with being tired? if we just cannot resist the urge to use the word "pooped" when talking about tiredness, maybe instead "i am so tired, as if i have been chewed and digested and now finally been pooped out and whoa, what a day." at least that puts it in context for people.]

i digress.
but all I really have to say is JUST LOOK:
.
a lot of things make me want to cry; emergencies, commercials during the olymics, sweet babies, sweet dads, weddings, getting pulled over, la la la and VINTAGEY GEMSTONE TEARDROP EARRINGS; the beauty, the elegance, the princess anastasia sensation you feel when you wear them! brings me to tears! (get it... teardrop earrings...couldn't resist.)

[Upon finding this pair by laura lewis found on Etsy, I promptly emailed the link to my mother. oh yes, I start in on the christmas listing the minute I feel a whisper of chill in the air.
"I need a sweater" = "better start my christmas list, holla!" ]

glorious 2" gemstone teardrop earrings:
+ rockery jeans
+ loose-vitting vneck tees
+ purple eyeliner
+ grandpa sweater. can be subbed for leather bomber.
+ casual boots w/roughedup studs
+ metal cuff slathered in tiny chains
= I WILL FEEL SO COOL ONCE I GET THESE FOR CHRISTMAS.

**disclaimer: my brain knows it is only just now fall. my heart, not so easy to convince.
***disclaimer to the disclaimer: it's never to early to be thinking about what you want to give - or get, as evidenced by selfish yours truly - for christmas.

not such a brief post afterall. phew i'm pooped!
...ha. ick.

bippity boppity

I have said this before:
I am jealous of little girl clothes.
those darling boots, magenta suede with the fringies?
only come in sizes for baby girls.
that particular pair belongs to halle, my bestfriend's niece.
she's 2. and we are besties.
[paperwork pending on me becoming halle's official godmother. i am doing what i can to insert "fairy" into the front of my title. fairy godmother. basically my role will include leaving presents; dresses, boots, barettes - basically things i wish i could wear but are only found in the little girl's seciton- outside her door at night. plus i can have justifaction for waving a wand around.]

we particular loved her outfit this afternoon:
cream sweaterdress, magenta fringie boots, mardi gras beads (her most recent obsession- like me and stripes! so much alike, my goddaughter and I) and my favorite addition: SPARKLY TIGHTS.
of all the little girl wardrobe wonders, sparkly tights might just be one I can pull off.
anybody seen any sparkly tights in big-girl sizes?

unexpected tourist/meet my lace

i wanted to show you this dress on the hanger
so you could see the light shimmy through the lace...
hanging there; all ready and waiting in your 1920s powder room as you primp in your silken dressing gown, setting your finger-curled hair in preparation for your secretive lovers' rendezvous on the crosswalk of a busy street. he will pass you a note - the meeting time and place - discreetly. you slide the note into a beaded clutch as you pass. you are probably wearing silky white gloves.

...or something.

BUT i just couldn't capture it the way i wanted to.
even so, do you see the lace and the loveliness?
this dress is by ruth,
[not the first ruth dress i have fallen for; notoriously feminine and beautifully made.]

there are (roughly) 4 million cats roaming my neighborhood.
this calico piece of fluff belongs to our neighbor (we think) and is normally too shy to linger. but when cameras are out, she struts her stuff and doesn't leave us alone. reminding us all of the valuable life lesson: always work it for the papa-papa-papa-razzi.

lace, lace, lace, lace, and colors. lace and colors and cats. lovely world.

I don't even mind that I'm not on my way to a vintagey lovers' rendezvous. because honestly, even if I had a meeting time and place tucked safely into my beaded clutch...I wouldn't be able to make it: dancing with the stars is on tonight. priorities much?

ps: please note the savvy "blogtop" my big sister L designed for me! isn't she good!
